Thyroid surgery

Our experience

After statistically analysing our case studies in 2011, during which we performed 230 thyroid operations, we saw that our morbidity is comparable to that published by the leading reference centres worldwide: aphonia caused by permanent recurrent paralysis 0.8%, hypothyroidism 1.3%, with a zero mortality rate.
The patients who were referred to us for surgery suffered from the following pathologies:

• Multinodular goitre 68%
• Carcinoma 17%
• Adenoma 10%
• Hyperthyroidism 5%

The importance of a multidisciplinary approach for patients suffering from thyroid cancer has led us to create a Thyroid Cancer Committee involving the specialists in nuclear medicine, anatomical pathology, endocrinology and surgery. At the meetings we discuss each case and agree on the best individualised treatment
